Curvy Girl Spotlight: Rochelle

For those of you who don’t know, I am part of a blogging group called Bloggers Like Me.  The great thing about joining a group like this is the chance you get to meet new people with similar interest as you.  As someone who is new to the blogging world, it provides me with answers to any questions I may have, a chance to get new readers, and tons of inspiration.  I was excited to have fellow BLM girl Rochelle of “What Rose Redd Said” inquire about featuring her in the Curvy Girl Spotlight portion of my blog.  Check out my interview with her below and once your're done, click on over to to her blog and check Rochelle out!

Tajuana:  Before we get to the fashion questions, who/what inspired you to start a blog?
Rochelle: What inspired me to start my life style blog was three things. First, I felt like I had started dressing like I had a farm and fifteen kids! Taking photos of what I was wearing and sharing them holds me accountable for dressing more like myself, more like a 30 year old mom and wife making moves! Second, I wanted to share my passion and love for taking care of my family and our home. Third, I wanted to have a space where I felt I could be unabashedly me...witty, clever, funny, intelligent, creative, fly and modest of course! LOL!
Tajuana:  As we all know, curvy girl fashion has come a long way from what it used to be.  What are your thoughts on the evolution of fashionable clothing made just for us?
Rochelle:  Well, truth be told, since most of my adult life I've teetered between a 12 and a 14 (now size 14) I can say that I've never had trouble finding things that were quality, fashionable and in my size. However, now, I can appreciate having Forever 21 plus sizes, H&M plus sizes and trendy plus size stores like Fashion to Figure. It's a breath of fresh air to not have to shop in the "Misses" section at the major department stores.
Tajuana:  How would you describe your personal style?
Rochelle:  My personal style is classic eclectic. My fashion icons are Michelle Obama, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and June Ambrose. I love classic styles coupled with funky prints and pieces and colors that you wouldn't normally pair together.

Tajuana:  What trends do you love this season?

Rochelle:  The trends I'm loving this season are peplum tops, dresses and skirts, animal print and cobalt blue. I love statement necklaces but, I don't like things close to my neck, I feel like that calls attention to my neck roll! LOL!
Tajuana: Favorite store to shop?

Rochelle:  My absolute favorite place to shop is the Thrift Store. However, for a major retailer, I'd have to go with Forever 21+. I, like many women, have to be budget conscious. So, I like that I can buy some of the more trendy pieces from Forever 21+ for a low price and pair them with my more expensive classic pieces like blazers, cardigans, slacks and pencil skirts.
Tajuana:  Heels, wedges, or flats?

Rochelle:  Easy! Heels! I'm all for accentuating your best asset and mine are my legs!
Tajuana:  Last but not least, what would you say to the curvy girls out there who may feel they can’t rock the latest fashion trends because of their size?

Rochelle:  Listen, just like you don't allow the fact that you're a woman or that you may be a minority to hinder you from reaching your potential in your careers or in your relationships, don't allow your weight to stop you from defining your personal style. You have to figure out what works best for your body type and your budget and then, start building your wardrobe. Finally, I would say to not follow trends but rather, embrace your personal style and only incorporate trends if they align with how you would like to present yourself.

Thanks again Rochelle for allowing me to feature you!
